About Norm
Norm Picard is a senior family law litigator with more than 40 years of experience, focusing on divorce and separation, including matters involving businesses, farms, and complex property issues. He prepares domestic contracts such as pre-nuptial and cohabitation agreements, separation agreements, and property agreements, and has extensive training in mediation and arbitration, preferring out-of-court settlements where possible while remaining prepared to litigate. Picard graduated with an LLB from the University of Alberta in 1975, taught Professional Responsibility as a sessional instructor at the university's Faculty of Law from 1986 to 1992, and was an instructor of the Alberta Bar Admission course. He was appointed Queen's Counsel (now King's Counsel) in 1994, served as a Bencher of the Law Society of Alberta from 1993 to 2002, received the 2014 Law Society of Alberta/Canadian Bar Association Distinguished Service Award and the 2014 University of Alberta Honour Award, and has been named among Best Lawyers in Canada in family law since 2009, including Lawyer of the Year, Edmonton, for 2021.
