Nick Leeson has spent over a decade advancing the rights of First Nations and Inuit clients while living and working in both the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut and Yellowknife, NWT. His practice covers Indigenous self-governance, legal and policy development, and natural resource law, including Aboriginal and treaty rights, Aboriginal title, consultation and accommodation, First Nation constitutions, laws and policy, governance support, impact benefit agreements, and strategic reconciliation planning, with particular expertise designing co-management regimes and shared decision-making processes involving historical treaties and modern land claim agreements. He is Past President of the NWT Branch of the Canadian Bar Association and Past Chair of the National Environmental, Energy and Resources Law Section, and previously served as an adjudicator for NWT property assessment and social assistance appeal boards. He holds a JD from the University of British Columbia, with an international law certification from Sciences Po, Paris, a bachelor's degree from Western University, and a master's degree in public policy and administration from Queen's University. He was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta in 2010 and holds current memberships in the Yukon, British Columbia, Nunavut, and Northwest Territories law societies.
