When a deal, a property sale or a building project ends up in a dispute, Nelson Wan is a litigator at SV Law's Guelph office who takes it to court. Shareholder fights, broken contracts and disagreements over commercial leases make up much of the work, along with property deals that never closed, partition and sale of jointly owned property, power of sale proceedings, and claims over construction liens and deficiencies. Wan has appeared at every level of court in Ontario and has run trials, applications and appeals as lead counsel, with mediations and arbitrations in the mix too.

Franchise matters are a second thread. Wan advises both franchisors and franchisees on disclosure compliance and on ending a franchise, including rescission under Ontario's Arthur Wishart Act, and recently wrote a two-part series for the firm about getting out of a franchise that's failing.

An Honours BA with High Distinction from the University of Toronto came first, in 2014. Wan then earned a J.D. at Queen's University in 2018, picking up the Fasken Martineau LLP Prize in Civil Procedure along the way, and was called to the bar in 2019.

Wan's fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin, and since 2022 has sat on the board of the Legal Clinic of Guelph and Wellington County. Away from the office, you'll find Wan seeking out lesser-known corners of Asia and Europe, working on a better ski technique, or cheering on Arsenal F.C.
