About Monica
Monica joined Neuman Thompson in 2019 after more than a decade as in-house legal counsel with Alberta Health Services, where she advised on collective agreement interpretation, discipline, terminations, accommodations, grievance handling and policy development in a heavily unionized environment. She has litigation experience before labour arbitration boards, the Alberta Labour Relations Board and the Alberta Human Rights Commission and Tribunal. Since joining the firm, Monica has represented employers across public and private sectors in both union and non-union settings, providing day-to-day and strategic advice, leading collective bargaining, and acting as an advocate in hearings and alternative dispute resolution. She holds a Bachelor of Laws with Distinction and a Bachelor of Arts, both from the University of Alberta, and was called to the Alberta Bar in 2001. Monica is a director of the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers for Alberta/Northwest Territories, sits on the Commissionaires Board of Governors, and has been recognized as a leading lawyer for labour and employment law by Best Lawyers in Canada.
