About Michael

Michael Solowan advises municipalities, school boards, public agencies, and provincial governments at Kingsgate Legal, focusing on governance, ethics, and external general counsel work. He is recognized for advising boards and councils on codes of conduct, complaint investigations, conflicts of interest, and bylaw and policy development, and has trained more than 500 newly elected officials and appointed board members. Michael has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta, the Court of King's Bench in Saskatchewan, and the Federal Court of Canada on matters including judicial review and contested elections. He earned his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta in 2005 and a Bachelor of Arts from Trinity Western University in 1997, and was called to the bar in Alberta in 2006, Saskatchewan in 2016, and the Northwest Territories in 2019.
