About Michael
Michael A. Waite, KC, is Firm Chairperson of Carbert Waite LLP, appointed King's Counsel in 2020. He maintains an active civil and commercial litigation practice and is recognized nationally as a leading health lawyer, advising healthcare institutions, physicians, nurses and other professionals, and also advises employers and employees on employment, disability and human rights issues. His estate litigation experience includes will challenges, family maintenance and support applications, and guardianship and trusteeship disputes, and he has 25 years of experience in mediation, trained through the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University School of Law. He has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta, the Federal Court of Canada, and the Alberta Human Rights Commission Tribunal. He holds a BA (1992) and LLB (1998) from the University of Calgary and an LLM from the University of Alberta (2006), was called to the Alberta bar in 1999 and the British Columbia bar in 2015, and taught Health Law as an adjunct professor at the University of Calgary from 2006 to 2018.
