About Melanie

Melanie Sharman Rowand is a scientist and senior associate whose practice is dedicated to intellectual property and food and drug regulatory law, with special attention to the agricultural, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology sectors. Melanie's work includes drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications, advising on transactions involving patents, and addressing questions of acquisition, validity, and infringement of IP rights. Melanie also provides strategic guidance on patent and regulatory matters in agriculture and pharmaceuticals, including novel food and feed approvals and issues at the intersection of IP and regulatory law. Melanie holds an advanced degree in botany and is a registered patent agent in both Canada and the United States, and belongs to groups including the American Agricultural Law Association and the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada.
