About Maya

Maya Borooah is a partner at Henein Hutchison Robitaille LLP, focusing on criminal defence, regulatory litigation, internal investigations, and corporate compliance. She has extensive trial experience defending people accused of serious offences and has appeared before every level of court in Ontario, as well as the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights. Her recent work centers on complex internal investigations, corporate compliance monitorships, and matters that straddle criminal and professional discipline proceedings. She holds an Osgoode Advance Certificate in Workplace Investigations and co-authored the second edition of Sentencing Principles and Practice. Before joining the firm, she clerked at the Alberta Court of Appeal and articled at a Toronto labour and litigation firm. She earned her JD from the University of Ottawa, graduating second in her class, and was called to the Ontario bar in 2016. She's currently on parental leave.
