Business & Corporate LawAlex Smith co-chairs the Civil Litigation Practice Group and is a partner at Henein Hutchison Robitaille LLP. His practice centers on private wealth disputes, including oppression remedy claims and trust and estate litigation, alongside complex commercial disputes, pension matters, class actions, and torts ranging from defamation to financial fraud and sexual assault. He has appeared at every level of court in Ontario, in the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal, the Tax Court of Canada, and the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as before various tribunals and arbitration panels. Alex regularly conducts internal investigations for boards and general counsel and also represents individuals under investigation. He is recognized in the 2025 Chambers High Net Worth Guide and contributed a chapter to a book on climate change law that won the Walter Owen Book Prize. Alex holds a BA from the University of Toronto, an MA from Cambridge, and a PhD in English Literature from Columbia, and he earned his law degree from the University of Toronto in 2008, and was called to the Ontario bar in 2009.
