About Maureen
Maureen Silcoff has practiced refugee and immigration law since 1988, litigating complex Charter cases and advocating for refugee rights and access to justice. She spent five years serving as a decision-maker with the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, giving her a distinct perspective on strategic litigation, and she managed test cases for the litigation committee of the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers for four years. She represents individuals, public interest parties, and interveners in complex cases before all levels of court, and has advocated on issues like legal aid funding and rights at the Canada-U.S. border. She served as President of the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers from 2019 to 2021 and continues on its litigation committee. She is Lawyer in Residence at Toronto Metropolitan University's Lincoln Alexander School of Law, where she teaches public interest litigation. She was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1988 and holds a J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School.
