About Margaret
Margaret Payne is a senior lawyer who joined MJB in 2025. Born in Nelson, BC, she completed her education in Kamloops after moves to Victoria and Prince George, attending the University of Victoria and specializing in social work before obtaining her law degree. After graduating, she articled with a large Toronto firm and was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1989, working as in-house counsel for Ontario Hydro in energy supply and environmental hearing work. She was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 1993 and the Alberta Bar in 1999, then obtained a Master's in Law from the Franklin Pierce Law Center in New Hampshire, specializing in intellectual property, trademark and copyright law. Margaret now practises primarily in family law and administrative law, with experience in property division, guardianship, parenting time, child support, and judicial reviews and appeals.
