About Mackenzie Jamieson

Patent fights, trademark disputes and pharmaceutical regulation are the heart of Mackenzie Jamieson's work. An associate with Gowling WLG in Ottawa, Jamieson sits in the firm's IP litigation group and helps clients protect their intellectual property and enforce it when it's challenged. Jamieson was called to the Ontario bar in 2020.

That work has reached the Supreme Court of Canada. In Pharmascience Inc. v. Janssen Inc., an appeal asking whether a patented dosing regimen claimed an unpatentable method of medical treatment, Jamieson was on the Gowling WLG counsel team for the interveners David Homuth, Marco Solmi and Pierre Bleau.

There's real science behind the practice, too. Jamieson studied life sciences at Queen's, with a focus on drug development and human toxicology, then earned a master's in regulatory science from the University of Southern California covering pharmaceuticals, medical devices and biologics. During those graduate years, Jamieson worked as an associate regulatory consultant at Children's Hospital Los Angeles and was a student leader in USC's Regulatory Consulting Group.

Law school was Dalhousie's Schulich School of Law, where Jamieson's team took the 2018 Harold G. Fox Intellectual Property Moot. Jamieson also put in time helping people directly, as an Executive Director of the Dalhousie Pro Bono program and as a Legal Aid Clinic advocate who represented community members in Nova Scotia Provincial Court.
