About Laura
Laura is a family lawyer, mediator and collaborative lawyer serving as CEO of MDW Law, a role she has held since 2021 developing a client-focused, team-based model for practising law. She favours alternative dispute resolution to help clients resolve matters without court involvement, while representing clients effectively in litigation when necessary, particularly in high-conflict cases. She has appeared before the Supreme and Provincial Courts of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. She serves on the Professional Standards Committee for the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society's Family Law Standards, has held executive roles with the CBA NS Family Section, and is past president of the NS Association of Collaborative Law Professionals. She co-chaired the Women's Lawyer Forum for CBA NS, winning the Section Excellence Award for 2023-24, and is a guest lecturer at the Schulich School of Law's Family Law course.
