About Laura
Laura Bruyer is an experienced litigator who has appeared at all three levels of Alberta court, including more than 25 appearances before the Court of Appeal of Alberta. She obtained her LLB from the University of Alberta in 1991, articled with a large Edmonton firm, and became a partner at a smaller firm in 1997 before moving her general litigation practice to a focus on family law in 1999. Bruyer joined the partnership now known as Bruyer & Mackay (then Gordon Zwaenepoel) in 2005 and was appointed King's Counsel in 2022. She specializes in complex disputes over custody, access, child support, spousal support, and property division, runs several family law trials each year, and has represented clients in judicial dispute resolutions. Bruyer has taught as a sessional lecturer at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law, contributed to continuing legal education for the Legal Education Society of Alberta, and serves on the steering committee revising the Alberta Family Law Practice Manual.
