About Kira Domratchev

Kira Domratchev is a partner at Gowling WLG in Toronto, working within the firm's global Private Client Services Group and litigating disputes over estates, trusts and mental capacity. Fights over wills, guardianship, powers of attorney and dependant support make up much of that work. Kira's also a Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP), a designation earned in 2023 that comes with full membership in STEP Canada.

Domratchev looks for common ground with clients and with lawyers on the other side alike, and where it's possible, tries to settle matters through mediation or another form of alternative dispute resolution. The aim is help that clients can count on: consistent, responsive and dependable while they work through difficult, emotionally draining litigation.

Domratchev was called to the Ontario bar in 2017, a year after finishing a JD at Osgoode Hall Law School. Close to four years of estate, trust and capacity litigation at another Toronto firm came before the move to Gowling WLG. Today the partner regularly argues before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, on both the Estates List and the Commercial List, and before the Court of Appeal for Ontario. As preferred counsel for LawPRO, Kira also takes on professional negligence files tied to estates and trusts.

Scholarship is part of the practice too. A 2021 journal paper by Domratchev asking whether an RESP is a trust was cited favourably by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Labatte v Labatte, 2022 ONSC 4787. Kira's a frequent speaker at continuing legal education programs, and outside paid work answers estate, trust and capacity questions as a volunteer on Pro Bono Ontario's Free Legal Advice Hotline. Best Lawyers has included Domratchev in its Ones to Watch list for Trusts and Estates since 2025.
