About Kayley

Kayley Laura Lata joined MedLégal as a lawyer in March 2025 after completing her Barreau du Québec articling with the firm. She practices civil litigation, focusing mainly on medical and hospital liability matters. Before joining the firm, she worked on several research projects in administrative law and health law, examining ethical questions around exceptional medications and writing her master's thesis on the concept of medical necessity in health care coverage in Quebec and Canada. That work led her to write academic articles and give conference presentations at the national and international level. During her studies she was a fellow with the Department of Equity, Ethics and Policy at the School of Population and Global Health at McGill University. She also works as a researcher at the Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law at McGill University, on a project examining the interplay between civil law, common law, and Indigenous legal traditions.
