About Kate
Kate Hunter earned her J.D. from the University of Windsor in 2024, after completing a B.A. with distinction in History at Queen's University in 2020. During law school she competed in several moot competitions, including the Zuber Moot, where she was named Best Oralist, and she and a teammate won the Arnup Cup before placing second nationally at the Sopinka Cup, where Kate was recognized as Best Overall Advocate. She volunteered as a senior caseworker with Windsor's Community Legal Aid, arguing matters before the Landlord Tenant Board, and she also spent time on an externship at Toronto's HIV Legal Network, working at the intersection of health law and policy. Kate joined McLeish Orlando as a summer student in 2023, returned to article in 2024, and was brought on as an associate in August 2025. Called to the Ontario bar in 2025, she has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice, and most recently acted as lead counsel in a ten-day Coroners Inquest into a death inside a psychiatric facility that led to jury recommendations for reforming the treatment of psychiatric patients in hospitals.
