She has been counsel in numerous reported Nova Scotia decisions involving medical negligence, defamation, and insurance disputes. Karen earned her LLB (honours) from Brunel University in London, England in 1999 and a BA from Dalhousie University in 1991, and was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 2001. She has served on the Canadian Mental Health Association's Nova Scotia board and as a part-time lecturer in civil trial practice at Dalhousie Law School.
