About Justin

Justin Kates is the Managing Partner of DuMoulin Black, practicing primarily in securities, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate and commercial law. He advises clients from early stage to large public companies on mergers and acquisitions, stock exchange listings, equity and debt financings, reorganizations and general corporate and commercial matters. In 2019 he received the Lexpert Canada Rising Star Award for Leading Lawyers Under 40, and in 2017 he was selected by the TMX as one of Canada's Next 150 Young Entrepreneurs and Forward-Thinkers. He has been recognized by Lexpert as a Leading Lawyer to Watch in Corporate Finance and Securities and by Best Lawyers in Canada for corporate law since 2021. Before practicing law he was an NCAA Division 1 and former ATP-ranked tennis player. He is a member of the Securities Law and Business Law sections of the Canadian Bar Association, and practises through a law corporation.
