Civil Litigation & Dispute ResolutionJohn Mather is a partner at DMG Advocates who practices commercial and public litigation. He regularly appears before the Ontario Superior Court and Court of Appeal, as well as courts in British Columbia and Saskatchewan, and has handled domestic and international arbitrations in cities such as New York and Riyadh. His commercial work spans contractual disputes, shareholder claims, product liability and class actions, commercial real estate and leasing, franchise and dealer disputes, procurement litigation, and defamation matters, along with fraud cases involving Mareva orders. On the public law side, he acted as Commission Counsel to Justice Rouleau at the public inquiry into the federal government's invocation of the Emergencies Act, and earlier served as Associate Commission Counsel at the Collingwood Judicial Inquiry. Before joining DMG Advocates in 2018, John spent five years as an associate at a national law firm, and before that worked as a journalist in Canada and the United Arab Emirates. He earned his J.D. with Distinction from Western University in 2012 and was called to the Ontario bar in 2013.
