About Hugh
Hugh DesBrisay is counsel at DMG Advocates, where he has advised on commercial disputes for more than three decades. His practice centers on product liability cases involving vehicles, machinery and equipment, along with franchise disputes, corporate and shareholder conflicts, and defending class actions. He has argued trials, applications and appeals before Ontario and Saskatchewan superior courts, the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Ontario Securities Commission, and currently leads several class actions tied to product liability and consumer protection statutes. Hugh earned his LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1984 and his BA from Queen's University in 1981, and he was called to the Ontario bar in 1986. Before helping start DMG Advocates in 2018, he was a partner at a national firm and at a well-known Toronto litigation boutique. He has also taught advocacy skills and chaired the Education Committee of The Advocates' Society.
