John L. Burns is a lawyer with more than 45 years of experience in a broad-based corporate and commercial law practice, known for pairing legal expertise with a business-oriented, practical approach to advice. He previously served as a senior partner at a national law firm with international affiliations, where he handled various client matters and supervised, managed, and instructed external counsel across Canada on corporate, transactional, and litigation issues. John also spent more than a decade as a consultant with a boutique investment bank; in that role, he managed the business and operational side of securitized financing arrangements for franchised auto dealerships and independent leasing firms, including work on project finance and infrastructure matters. He later moved from that consulting role into a full-time position with the company, serving as Executive Vice President and General Counsel for five years.
