About John
John A. Black's practice focuses on investment funds and asset management. Over more than two decades, he has represented large financial institutions, investment managers, and pension funds on complex investment management and securities regulatory issues. Black has played a central role in numerous mergers and acquisitions that have shaped the Canadian and, at times, global investment management industry, along with significant transactions in financial services. He advises investment managers, pension funds, and other institutional investors on strategic questions involving ETFs, hedge funds, mutual funds, private equity funds, and managed account structures. Black has helped build the firm's investment management practice and speaks regularly at legal and business conferences both in Canada and internationally. He also serves on internal committees focused on recruiting and developing the firm's partners, associates, and students. He holds an LL.B. and a B.A. from the University of Western Ontario, and belongs to the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of Ontario.
