About Jim

Jim practised law in the Okanagan for 35 years, focusing on real estate purchasing, development, mortgaging and secured transactions, commercial leasing, First Nations leases, condominium law, corporate transactions, and wills and estates. His commercial lending work covered loan agreements, mortgages, general security agreements, share pledges, debentures, and other complex secured transactions, and he guided numerous residential and commercial developments from disclosure statements through Land Title Office registration for Okanagan developers and commercial lenders. He merged his practice into Thomas Butler LLP in December 2009 and retired on December 31, 2018. Jim earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary in 1967 and a Bachelor of Law from the University of British Columbia in 1970, and was called to the BC Bar in 1971.
