Tax LawJim advises small businesses, mid-size development and retail operations, professional organizations, and large public companies on tax and business structuring matters. His work includes reorganizing business ownership structures such as estate freezes and mergers, negotiating and drafting shareholders' agreements, and providing tax structuring advice on acquisitions and divestitures. He also designs employee stock option plans and other equity-based compensation programs, along with joint venture agreements and limited partnership structures. Jim earned his LLB from Dalhousie University in 1991 and a BBA from Acadia University in 1984. He was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 1993 and has served on Stewart McKelvey's Partnership Board and the Canadian Bar Association's Joint Committee on Taxation. He has been named Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in trusts and estates, corporate law, and tax law in Halifax.
