Jean-Pierre Casavant is a founding partner whose practice focuses on insurance law, coverage opinions and product liability. He founded the firm, then known as Casavant Mercier, in 2007 with Joël Mercier after 35 years practising insurance law at Lavery de Billy in Montreal. He has taught advocacy seminars for the Barreau du Québec at the Université de Sherbrooke for more than 15 years and has served on several Barreau committees, including its committee on the future of the profession. He has been listed in the Lexpert/American Lawyer guide to Canada's leading 500 lawyers, the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and Chambers Global, and was named Best Lawyers' Montreal Insurance Law Lawyer of the Year in 2012. In 2015 the Barreau du Québec named him Avocat émérite (Ad. E.). He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Association Henri Capitant and the Defense Research Institute.
