About Janis

Janis Byrne is Counsel in Cox & Palmer's St. John's office and was appointed King's Counsel in 2020. She spent 23 years as General Counsel and Executive Vice President-Legal of Pennecon Limited, advising companies in construction, energy, marine, real estate and other sectors, before retiring from that role in 2022 to focus on corporate governance work. She holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Windsor and a Bachelor of Civil Law from the University of Ottawa, and was called to the Newfoundland and Labrador bar in 1996. Janis serves as a director of several organizations, including Growler Energy Inc. and the Atlantic Lottery Corporation.
