Civil Litigation & Dispute ResolutionJanelle O'Connor has been a litigation lawyer with Murphy Battista LLP since 2020, focusing on class actions for institutional abuse and crown liability. She was class counsel, alongside colleague Angela Bespflug, in the settlement of an estimated $100 million class action for women who experienced gender and sexual harassment while working and volunteering with the RCMP in non-member roles. She also pursues individual civil sexual assault claims, historical and recent, many involving institutions such as religious organizations, school boards and government ministries. Janelle taught for several years at the University of British Columbia on gender violence and Indigenous issues. She earned her LLB from the University of Alberta in 2004 and a BA from the University of Saskatchewan in 2001, and was called to the British Columbia bar in 2005.
