About J. Scott Fletcher

Corporate and commercial work sits at the core of J. Scott Fletcher's practice as a senior partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office, with much of it centred on telecommunications, technology, energy and government relations. Fletcher counsels businesses on commercial alliances and privatizations, and gives boards advice on both strategy and policy.

Fletcher also advises on regulatory matters in telecom, energy, and gaming and lotteries, and corporate clients regularly turn to Scott for strategic guidance on telecom issues. There's a public sector thread too: the practice covers moving government departments and programs into private hands, and Fletcher has acted for many federal Crown corporations and served on the boards of several federal corporations.

Inside the firm, Scott leads the client teams for several major telecom and energy clients and sits on the executive teams of others. Fletcher was called to the Ontario bar in 1986 after earning an LLB and an honours social science degree in political science and sociology, both at the University of Ottawa, and works in English and French. Fletcher has been recognized in Best Lawyers since 2019, currently for Communications Law and Corporate Law.
