Heather Mahony's practice focuses on lands matters and claims negotiations, including negotiating high-value specific claims settlements and establishing legislative regimes for lands and resources for self-governing First Nations, along with experience in on-reserve land transactions, taxation, and commercial development. She was a litigation team member in the landmark Tsilhqot'in Nation v. British Columbia Aboriginal title case, where she developed a deep appreciation for the role of Indigenous law, including oral history and elders' knowledge. She was called to the bar in 2004 and is a member of the Law Societies of British Columbia, Yukon, and Ontario, as well as the Canadian Bar Association and its Vancouver Island Aboriginal Section. She is well recognized in her field and is regularly called upon to speak on topics including First Nation laws, land management, and specific claims.
