About Gwen

Gwen Watson is a partner at Torys who advises corporations on income tax matters, with particular emphasis on mergers and acquisitions and corporate reorganizations, including butterfly and bump transactions. She has extensive experience with complex transactions and regularly advises on the tax aspects of cross-border deals, capital markets transactions, derivatives and financial instruments. Gwen has deep knowledge of Canada's foreign affiliate rules. She is a member of the Joint Committee on Taxation of the CBA and CPA Canada and serves as a tutorial leader for CPA Canada's Corporate Reorganizations course. Gwen also belongs to the Canadian Tax Foundation and the International Fiscal Association. Earlier in her career, she completed a secondment at the CRA's Income Tax Rulings Directorate, working as a Senior Rulings Officer in the Corporate Reorganizations section.
