Gordon Ball has practised family law since 1972 and is a member of the Law Societies of Alberta and British Columbia. His practice focuses on negotiated solutions for divorcing couples, and he has acted as a mediator in many cases, aiming to minimize the financial and emotional cost of separation for clients and their children. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the University of Saskatchewan (1968), which he draws on when addressing the finances involved in dividing marital assets, and a law degree from the University of Alberta (1972). Beyond his practice, Gordon is active in the Nanaimo community, having served with Newcomers Clubs, Business Clubs, and Toastmasters, and he presents talks on family law to seniors' groups, Rotary Clubs, and Newcomers groups.
