About Kathleen
Kathleen Sugiyama was born and raised in Nanaimo. She graduated from the University of Victoria in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in History, then earned her law degree from the University of Alberta in 2006. She returned to Nanaimo to article with Heath Law and was called to the British Columbia Bar in May 2007, staying on with the firm and becoming a partner. She practises family law and personal injury law, and has been certified by the BC Collaborative Roster Society as a Collaborative Family Law Lawyer. Her family law focus is on keeping clients out of court where possible, through negotiation, mediation, and collaborative practice, though she also has significant Provincial and Supreme Court experience.
