Brenda Kaine has practised family law since 1981, first in the Lower Mainland and, since 2005, on Vancouver Island. Her early career centred on Provincial Court work, representing the government in child protection cases and handling paternity and interprovincial child support matters. Since the 1990s she has appeared before all three levels of BC courts and has been counsel in several reported decisions on issues like child support arrears, spousal support, cohabitation agreements, and the division of inheritances. She holds a law degree from Queen's University and is a Law Society Certified Family Law Mediator, having also completed the American Arbitration Association's advanced mediation course. Brenda prefers to resolve family law disputes through mediation where possible, but represents clients in court when a settlement can't be reached. She is a member of the BC Law Society and the Canadian Bar Association.
