Gilbert (Gil) J. Ludwig, K.C. is the managing lawyer at Wilson Laycraft, providing counsel to major energy, power, and real estate development clients on tax planning, reporting requirements, and litigation strategy. His practice focuses on commercial property tax litigation, municipal law, and administrative law throughout Western Canada, and he frequently appears before tribunals including the Municipal Government Board, the Composite Assessment Review Board, the Environmental Appeal Board, and the Tax Court, as well as before the superior and appellate courts and the Supreme Court of Canada. For more than 20 years, Gil has been lead counsel for the taxpayer in numerous significant Alberta property tax cases, and he writes and presents frequently on assessment and taxation developments for the Canadian Property Tax Association and other industry bodies. He earned his BA and LLB from the University of Saskatchewan in 1985 and a Master of Laws from the University of Aix-Marseille in France in 1990, and was called to the Saskatchewan bar in 1986 and the Alberta bar in 1991, receiving his Queen's Counsel appointment in 2013. Gil is a past president of the Canadian Property Tax Association and a volunteer with the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society.
