About Erin Creber

Erin Creber is an Ottawa partner at Gowling WLG whose courtroom work centres on intellectual property. Clients come from life sciences, technology and manufacturing, and pharmaceutical companies are among those who turn to Erin for advice.

Science came before law. Erin holds a chemical engineering degree and an economics degree from Queen's, then earned a JD at Western in 2011 and was called to the Ontario bar the following year. Trademark agent registration came in 2013. In 2019 Erin passed CIPO's patent agent qualifying exam and joined Gowling's Ottawa patent agents, taking on prosecution and IP litigation in bioengineering, biomaterials, chemical processing and manufacturing, and chemical engineering.

Being both a lawyer and a registered agent means Erin can stay with a client from protecting an invention or brand through to enforcing it in court. Erin has appeared as counsel at the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada, handling trials as well as appeals, and has led patent enforcement that spanned more than one jurisdiction. Not every dispute ends in a judgment, either: Erin regularly helps clients negotiate settlements and strategic business deals, with the focus kept on advice that's practical and makes commercial sense.

Erin litigates drug patent disputes under the PMNOC Regulations, at trial and on appeal, and has acted as counsel of record in proceedings involving Astellas and Sandoz over MYRBETRIQ, Novartis and Pharmascience over ENTRESTO, and Bayer and Amgen Canada over EYLEA.
