About Emma

Emma L. Huang is an Associate at Torys working from the Toronto office. Her practice covers litigation and dispute resolution, with particular experience in tax controversies, international arbitration, and commercial litigation matters. She has also provided legal and policy guidance to the federal government and to courts on topics such as the use of artificial intelligence, regulatory technology, and digital compliance obligations for public bodies. Within the firm, Emma co-chairs the Asian Professionals Employee Resource Group and belongs to the AI Practice Group. She belongs to several professional groups outside the firm as well: the Advocacy Club, the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers, the Organization of Women in International Trade, the Young Canadian Arbitration Practitioners, and The Advocates' Society. She previously sat on the executive of the Ontario Bar Association's Young Lawyer Division, its Women Lawyers Forum, and its Student section. As a Young Diplomats of Canada delegate, Emma represented Canadian youth at meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, co-chaired the OBA Women Lawyers Forum's Pathways to Power program, and moderated trade policy discussions among Canada, the US, and China for the Canada China Forum. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she helped raise funds and secure personal protective equipment for healthcare workers in Ottawa.
