About Emily
Emily Sherkey is a Partner at Torys, based in Toronto. Her work is concentrated in litigation and dispute resolution, with particular focus on investor-state arbitration, international commercial arbitration, and corporate and commercial litigation. She has extensive experience with arbitrations both in Canada and internationally in commercial matters, and she has similarly handled investment arbitration cases arising under a variety of bilateral and multilateral treaties, in addition to being involved in set-aside and enforcement proceedings. Emily advises regularly on investment protection matters, drawing on experience with institutions such as ICSID, UNCITRAL, the ICC, and the LCIA, along with ad hoc arbitrations. She has appeared as counsel at every level of court in Ontario, along with the Federal Court. Within the arbitration community, she serves on the ICC Canada Arbitration Committee as Conference Coordinator for its 2025 conference, and she was previously one of four Canadian representatives on the ICC Young Arbitration & ADR Forum for North America. She has also held Executive and Board roles with the Young Canadian Arbitration Practitioners, including a term as Vice President of Communications, and since 2018 she has given a yearly guest lecture at Osgoode Hall Law School to LLM students on investor-state dispute settlement. In 2022/2023, she coached the Jessup Moot team representing Queen's Law.
