About Edwin
Ed Upenieks chairs Lawrences' Litigation Group and has been a litigator since he was called to the bar in 1983. In recognition of his extensive litigation experience as lead counsel on numerous significant cases, the Law Society of Upper Canada designated him a Certified Specialist in Civil Litigation in 1998, and he also completed the Harvard Mediation Program. Ed spent his first 16 years at a Bay Street firm before joining Lawrences in 1999, and his work spans corporate and commercial disputes, real estate litigation, expropriation matters, partnership and shareholder conflicts, estate litigation, and the assessment of costs. He has acted for more than 50 law firms, ranging from sole practitioners to some of the country's largest firms, and has argued numerous appeals before the Ontario Court of Appeal. Ed wrote the second edition of the textbook Enforcing Judgments and Orders, published in 2016, and served as elected President of the Ontario Bar Association from 2015 to 2016.
