About Douglas

Douglas Merchant joined Hartshorne & Mehl in 2025 after serving as senior litigation counsel for an insurance company handling complex cases. He previously worked over 15 years as in-house litigation counsel for the City of Calgary, with trial experience across Alberta and BC courts and the Supreme Court of Canada, and served as an adjudicator with the Civil Resolution Tribunal. He holds an LL.B. from the University of Alberta (1996) and a B.A. from the University of Toronto (1991), and was called to the bar in Alberta in 1997 and British Columbia in 2021. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Vancouver Bar Association, and the Law Society of British Columbia.
