About Derek
Derek leads the firm's Business Disputes group. He also does work in wills and estates litigation, labour and employment law, intellectual property and technology, and insurance matters. His litigation covers a broad mix of commercial, employment and intellectual property disputes, and he regularly counsels employers on drafting workplace contracts and policies, along with pursuing trademark applications on their behalf. He has appeared before the BC Court of Appeal, the Federal Court of Canada and the Supreme Court of British Columbia, plus a number of tribunals, including the Canada Industrial Relations Board, the Trade-Marks Opposition Board, and human rights tribunals at both the provincial and federal level. Derek volunteers with Access Pro Bono's Going Public initiative and has taken part in the JDRF Ride for Diabetes Research. He belongs to the Law Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Bar Association, the Vancouver Bar Association and the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers.
