About Denise
Denise Baker chairs WeirFoulds LLP and, as a partner, continues to advise municipalities and land developers on land use planning and municipal finance issues alongside her leadership duties. Over more than two decades she has appeared before the Ontario Land Tribunal and its predecessor bodies, as well as the Ontario Court of Justice and the Divisional Court, and she favours mediation and negotiation as a way to resolve disputes where litigation is not required. She has been ranked by Best Lawyers in Canada, the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, and Chambers Canada, and has held leadership roles including Co-Chair of the first Cambridge Forum on Land Use Planning and Chair of the Ontario Bar Association's Municipal Law Section. She teaches a course on the role of the expert witness before the Ontario Land Tribunal and previously taught planning law at the University of Waterloo. She earned a B.A. from Mount Allison University in 1997, a Master of Planning from Queen's University in 2000, and an LL.B. from Queen's in 2002, was called to the Ontario bar in 2003, and belongs to Lambda Alpha International (Simcoe Chapter), the Ontario Bar Association, and the Canadian Bar Association.
