About David
David Forrester is a partner practicing corporate, commercial, and securities law, with particular emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, and corporate finance matters. He has acted for companies on both sides of transactions, representing acquirers and targets as well as family enterprises, controlling shareholders, and boards of directors, across matters ranging from negotiated deals to contested situations. David regularly counsels companies, directors, shareholders, and family businesses on governance matters, crisis situations, and compliance issues. He also has significant experience representing issuers and investment banks in public debt and equity offerings, and advises public companies on ongoing disclosure and governance obligations, along with drafting commercial contracts and HR-related policies. His client base spans sectors such as energy, mining and metals, retail, manufacturing, infrastructure, financial services, and government bodies, and he has played a lead role for some of Canada's largest companies, including the Weston family of businesses, Sun Life Financial, Thomson Reuters, and Brookfield. David takes an active part in the firm's mentoring, training, and recruitment programs for students and associates, and also volunteers with Start Proud, an organization supporting LGBTQA+ students moving from school into their careers, where he has served as a mentor and spoken at career events.
