David Butcher, KC is associate counsel at Martland & Saulnier, joining the firm in 2025 after a long criminal law career. He began as a federal prosecutor with the Department of Justice in 1985, practiced criminal and civil litigation at a regional firm from 1989 to 2003, and then co-founded what became Wilson Butcher. He has appeared in courts across British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Nunavut, and the Yukon, as well as the Supreme Court of Canada, and served as counsel on public inquiries including the Braidwood Inquiry and the Cullen Commission on money laundering in BC. He is a Special Prosecutor appointed by the Attorney General of British Columbia and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2010, and for more than two decades he taught Advanced Advocacy at the UBC Faculty of Law.
