Business & Corporate LawDaniel Lafortune has practised commercial and corporate law, along with intellectual property law, since his admission to the Quebec Bar in 1984. He serves as legal counsel to numerous businesses, their executives and shareholders, and his experience includes major public and private financings, commercial transactions, restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, shareholder disputes, and audiovisual production and distribution matters. He holds an LL.B. from the Université de Montréal (1983), an LL.M. in commercial law from the same institution (1987), and an LL.M. in international commercial law from the University of London (1988). Lafortune was a guest professor in the Université de Montréal's commercial-law master's program from 1989 to 2018, teaching commercial contract drafting and corporate law, and has also taught at the Rotman School of Management, the Quebec Bar's professional training school, and HEC Montréal. He belongs to the Canadian Bar Association, the Association for Tax and Financial Planning and the American Bar Association, and is a lifetime governor of the Quebec Bar Foundation.
