About Chris

Chris Canning is a partner in Thorsteinssons' Vancouver office, where his practice centres on tax litigation and representing taxpayers in disputes with the CRA. He handles income tax and GST/HST audits and objections, court proceedings, and voluntary disclosures, and has dealt extensively with recent CRA audit initiatives such as capital-versus-income reassessments on real property sales and net-worth assessments. He aims to resolve disputes efficiently, whether by succeeding on the facts and the law or through negotiated settlement, and takes a detail-oriented approach to each file. Chris also writes on tax topics, with work appearing in Canadian Tax Focus and Tax Times. He holds a law degree from the University of Victoria and a Bachelor of Arts with honours in economics from Vancouver Island University.
