About Cara
Cara Shamess focuses her practice on construction law, counselling owners, developers, lenders, general contractors, construction managers, subcontractors, suppliers, architects, and engineers. Her work includes drafting and negotiating procurement and contract documents, handling bid disputes, construction liens and lien actions, bond claims, and claims for breach of contract or trust, negligence, and delay, along with settlement negotiations and mediations. Before joining Wilson Vukelich in 2020, she practised at several boutique and full-service firms and served as Construction Legal Counsel at the University of Toronto. She lectures annually at U of T's John H. Daniels School of Architecture, Landscape and Design and previously taught a construction contracts course at George Brown College, and she sits on the Toronto Construction Association's Professional Development and Accreditation Committee. Cara holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) from the University of Western Ontario and a J.D. from the University of Toronto, and was called to the Ontario bar in 2003.
