About Bernard

Bernard Cummins has focused exclusively on criminal defence and related regulatory work since 1998, handling hundreds of complex trials across Ontario. Raised in Cambridge, he studied political science at the University of Guelph before earning a master's degree there in public policy and administration. He completed his law degree at the University of Windsor in 1996, winning the McIntyre Award in Criminal Justice, then articled with the firm and was called to the bar in 1998, becoming a partner in 2005. He spent nine years teaching criminal offences and federal legislation at the University of Guelph-Humber and has argued cases at the Ontario Court of Appeal and Coroner's inquests. He represents numerous police associations on labour, discipline and criminal matters, and received the Queen's Jubilee Medal in 2011 for his work with the Hamilton Police Association.
