About Cooper Lord

Cooper Lord is a Kitchener criminal defence lawyer who takes on serious and complex charges of every kind, with special attention to the Charter rights of the person accused. Criminal law is the only work Cooper does, and for more than a decade that work has meant defending clients across Southwestern Ontario. Cooper founded Cooper Lord Law in 2013.

The road to defence work wasn't a straight one. Cooper studied business at university, sold life insurance for a few months, then worked as an assistant manager at a pharmacy before deciding to write the LSAT. Law school began with environmental law as the plan. Courses in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure changed that, and criminal law has been Cooper's field ever since.

After earning a J.D. at Florida State University, Cooper spent 2010 to 2013 as an assistant state attorney in Polk County, Florida, prosecuting cases in central Florida. Cooper then moved to Canada and opened a criminal defence practice.

Cooper is also involved in the local legal community. From 2019 to 2021 Cooper sat on the Waterloo Region Law Association's Board of Trustees, and in 2020 and 2021 advised the Laurier-Sussex Law Program Advisory Group. For Cooper, defending people charged with crimes is a calling rather than simply a job.
