Ben Hackett is a partner in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group at Goodmans. His commercial litigation practice emphasizes intellectual property disputes involving patents, trademarks, and copyright, and he appears regularly at the trial and appeal levels of the Federal Courts as well as before the Supreme Court of Canada. Hackett also helps clients with tax dispute resolution at the appeal and administrative levels. He's been counsel in cases involving patent validity and infringement, damages and profits recovery under section 8 of the Patented Medicines (NOC) Regulations, and inter partes experimental testing before the Federal Court, and he regularly handles matters involving complex market reconstruction and injunctive relief. He advises pharmaceutical clients on pricing regulation issues before the Patented Medicines Prices Review Board and has acted as counsel in Federal Court actions under the Competition Act. Since 2018, Hackett has been featured in the Lexpert Special Editions covering technology, health sciences, and litigation, and Best Lawyers in Canada has recognized his intellectual property work since 2015. He's also ranked by Chambers Global, Chambers Canada, IAM Patent 1000, and other industry guides. Hackett has long served on the Intellectual Property Courts Practice Committee of the Canadian Bar Association and the IPIC Litigation Committee.
